I am a design researcher with an interdisciplinary practice driven by a constant state of curiosity. I have 15 years of experience on a wide range of projects in both the private and public sectors. While the content of my work varies, the core is consistent: I explore and ask new questions about the world to frame opportunities; use a variety of methodologies to gain a deep understanding of people and communities; find actionable insights for design; and transform ideas into visions through design, storytelling, and strategy. Through my exploratory work, I’ve also found design research extends naturally into experiential learning, and building organizational capacity for creativity and curiosity.
I have an interdisciplinary PhD from the University of California, Irvine centered on design and anthropology. Previously, I was a design researcher at IDEO and at the Mayo Clinic. In my freelance practice, I have led projects with the following organizations: Chicago Public Library, Aarhus Public Library, Transcend Education, New Schools Venture Fund, Green Card Voices, The Arts Club of Chicago, Mana Contemporary, The Patient Revolution, Hennepin County Medical Center, Hawthorne Gardening Company and Samsung. I've also taught design students at Art Center College of Design and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
